Will the Real Li Na Please Come Forward?

From: China 浙江(zhe jiang) 杭州(hang zhou ) @JohnAbbot Time : 2014-02-03 15:13:14

After recently posting a thread on the forum in praise of Li Na, and having asked Achelle to write an article about Li Na to tell everyone about her, which heaped more praise upon her, in the eMagazine titled “Big Sister Na,” Li Na, China’s Strong, Unbending, and Unyielding Role Model, it came as a bit of a rude shock to have my wife point out a recent news item on the Chinese internet in which seems to disclose a different Li Na.

Apparently Li Na arrived to a waiting throng of people when she disembarked her flight in Wuhan, China. Besides countless fans and children trying to give her flowers and showering applause on her, there was also lined up to welcome her home some officials of Hubei Province to hand her a bonus being gifted by the Province to honor her victory, as well as her Chinese coach from her time within the China Sports program.  To make a long story short, according to this version of what happened she basically rudely snubbed everybody present, and was the opposite person to the one who made such a glowing victory speech at the Australian Open.

I'm not saying the above story is true, but there it was on the net being presented by what seemed to be a credible Chinese website.  I'm actually writing this thread in hopes the Chinese ladies, and especially those from Wuhan, can tell us what really happened, and if it was as rude as reported, why they think Li Na was so different on that occasion?

Finally, please comment on which Li Na is the real one? The one who wowed us all with her gracious good humour and warm smile in Australia, or the one who offended a large number of people in Wuhan?

I'm really pulling for the Australian Open Li Na!

Here is an article my sister share me from WeiXin. I think that can be helpful for us to understand Li Na.

i read that also on internet that the reporter who was excited to report Li Na ' wonderful performance on Australian Open , was very dissappointed to write that, Li Na was very cold to the people in her hometown in the celebration, and she was even cold to her coach in her youngth in Wuhan.

I have the feeling (from some interviews I have read about her) that she doesn't suffer fools lightly!

Certainly she is a highly-driven individual that has overcome many barriers and hardships to attain her sporting success so having to 'suck it up' for a few 'official' who's only ability is to 'reallocate funds' and get in photographs must be fairly annoying! If some smiling loon came up to me and gave me a cheque for a substantial amount of publics money (Where did it come from? Which hospital or school did they close?) just to get his face in a newspaper, then I wouldn't be 'helping the situation' willingly either!
Give her a break - after living overseas for a while, the pollution (airborne and nepotism/hegemony) must have been a little unpleasant on the nostrils and bound to make her screw-up her face just a little!

And, if I have just travelled 10-12 hours on a plane - I am not necessarily the happiest person either - and I don't play a massive game of tennis in 40 degree heat the weekend before I fly!

Li Na is not cold. She is a revolutionist of the feudal education revolution to me.
It's a normal reaction to struggles, setbacks, and disappointments from family and coach.
She just didn't hide.
I believe there are more people in China feeling the same way.
Examination- oriented education system is a social abuse in China, needless to say "developing the capabilities by insulting to one's pride".
More and more Chinese people begin to pay attention to mental health now,but apparently, the maturing of the abused generation who had suffered a lot, have began to diffuse negative emotions.
As her peers, we could heartily wish that Li Na would finally get through unpleasant emotions, and gain the happiness from her soul

Thanks all for your helpful thoughts.

For the most part, I have no doubt that over the years Li Na has suffered significantly from bureaucratic fools of the worst kind. Government clowns trying desperately to glom onto her earnings, control her efforts both on and off the tennis court and ride on her coattails in attempts to take credit for everything she has achieved every step of the way.

The ridiculous (and shameless as Panda suggests) offer of a huge gift of money to her deserved her sneers and I wholeheartedly applaud her for so sneering. Li Na's job is to play tennis and attempt to win. When she wins on such a grand scale as the Australian Open, she is rewarded on an equally grand scale in both prize money and payments for endorsements. That some self serving government
clown thought it appropriate to throw money at Li Na that could better be spent feeding the starving or educating the poor is truly insulting to all Chinese citizens.

I personally think that the real Li Na showed up both in her acceptance speech at the Open and her non-acceptance speech in Wuhan, and I applaud her for her actions on both occasions.

But then, I'm not a big fan of government bureaucrats.
