Serendipity

From: China 山东(shan dong) 济宁(ji ning ) @paulfox1 Time : 2016-08-11 23:04:13

A dating site is for dating - well, at least it's supposed to be.

But what of those of us to whom a date means nothing more than a number on the calendar?

Sex between 2 people is known as a 'twosome'; between 3, a 'threesome'; 4, a 'foursome' etc.

These days I'm re-defining the word 'handsome'!

So I either retire to my hibernation hole for an indefinite period or bore you to death with ramblings that have nothing to do with sex or dating.

Since I'm not a bear or a hamster, hibernation is not my preferred option, so ramblings it will be.

Isn't the word ' serendipity' wonderful? It conjures up the feeling of 'serenity', yet has nothing to do with it !!!!

Serendipity means to find something valuable/worthwhile, whilst looking for something else.

I've had a few serendipitous moments of late, and I want to share one of them with you - just for fun.

Whilst looking for content on 'confusing words in English - (affect/effect etc), I came across some amusing stuff.

I can't keep Melcyan happy by citing every bit of content because these are a compilation from various sources, but essentially they are badly worded adverts and headlines that will bring a smile to your dial.

For instance, we all know the supermarket notice board where people can advertise for anything, so what about these....

Wanted: 3-year-old teacher with at least 2 years experience.

For Sale: Stainless steel mixing bowl suitable for female cook with large bottom for easy beating.

Or what about this one -

For sale: Antique writing desk suitable for lady with thick legs and large drawers.

For Sale: Selection of beautiful dresses handed down to me by Grandma in perfect condition.

If that's not enough to tickle you, take a look at these newspaper headlines.......

I am happy with what you have written here. This time, you have made it clear which words are yours and which words belong to others.  Anyone who wants to find the source of the words belonging to others only has to cut and paste those words into a google search.
