Quick question: email addresses

From: Australia Queensland Brisbane @drumlover Time : 2013-01-08 13:56:37
Hi All,

I am new to this style of dating and have only been here a few days but have already been asked to chat outside of this website. Once there, immediately received an invitation to another dating agency website which charges for translation.

Seems like I have to make sure I go into each reply or invitation with my guard up, which is disappointing but I understand.
I have received a few messages which contain an email address, especially from yahoo.cn. I am making the general assumption these are going to be from scammers. Is this generally how you guys would see that too?

Thanks,

drumlover.

"yahoo.com.cn” is normal and very popular in China. When I was registering an email address of yahoo.com.cn, quite few user names I created and typed in, they were not available. “yahoo.cn” which was automatic recommend by Yahoo mail site. So, that time I taken easy and just for saving time, I picked one mail address with “yahoo.cn”. Now I’m using it. hahahaha…... I don’t have any scam plans.

I think the point is if you having unsafe feelings from email address, or feel uncomfortable to communicate with the lady by “yahoo.cn”, then you can tell her staying here and to know each other better, then move.

Hope it helps ;-)

I've received some personal emails, but they are not given out freely, and anyone asking for things or suggeting another site should be reported to John.

@drumlover - yes, you should keep your guard up. I'm sorry to say that CLM/ALM does more than any other site I know of to protect members from Scammers but some still sneak by and you have to keep your eyes open.

Perfect examples of scammers who often sneak by are the girls here to try to get you to go to a scammer site (of which there are many). Those girls really are Chinese girls and it's almost impossible for us to know what they are up to until they have actually tried to get someone to the scam site and that person has reported them.

Which leads to Scubaguys comment which is absolutely correct. We encourage and rely on member reporting, and it is one of our major weapons against these vermin. But don't feel obliged to report it directly to John. Just report it to service@ChinaLoveMatch.net or service@AsiaLoveMatch.net. If the employee who opens it can't handle it herself it will find it's way to me. Or you can report it by clicking the "Report this Member" button beside her/his primary photo on his/her profile page.

Regarding the private email, lots of totally innocent and sincere members try to leap quickly to their private email, but scammers will always try to do that too. More and more, it makes no sense to not stay on CLM/ALM until you have spent some serious time getting to know this person and you are confident you can trust her or him and you want to commit to a serious relationship. Before that why would you want to give away any part of your personal identity? Unfortunately, as I say, many people are not tuned into this.

Apinkapple, did you mean skype? Skype is a commone chat program all over the world. Its free and also supports video or audio chat but only at each user's individual discretion.

I use it all the time. My elderly parents even use it to talk to family and friends who live too far away to see often, like my aunt in Europe. I've also had a cross country job interview using it.

I wouldn't think just asking someone to skype necessarily hints at their being a scammer. They probably just want to video chat so they can see your pretty smile.

Also you can always just remove them from your skype contact list if at any time you want to backstrack and quit talking to that person and you dont need to turn on the video chat part if you dont want. There is a switch to toggle it on or off and if its on you can see your camera view in a little window so you know what you are sending. I think Skype is just as safe as chatting in here.

I do generally like to stay here, safe and annonymously protected by the site until I feel I know the person at least a little and am comfortable giving more personal info, but there are times when the person in China says they are recieving what I type but their messages wont go back through to me. Or sometimes chat just doesnt work well for what ever reason and its just easier or more efficient to do Wechat on our cell phones Or yahoo chat, msn etc.

The ones that unnerve me are the ones who send me a first contact message of only four words and then just ask for my email or to ad them to my such and such.

By the way everybody. Wechat is the coolest, free cell phone chat client I have found yet. Its a free app and super popular in China and around the world but apparently Western guys dont use it. Or so I was told by my Chinese friend. LOL, which was true until someone here introduced me to it. Last time i tried to set up the English QQ it still took me to some part that was in chinese and I just couldnt get it set up right. This is like instant messaging but you can also record clips to send in it and it has other social aspects. LOL, no I dont work for them I just find it strange that its all in english and its huge but nobody here, in the USA at least, has ever heard of it.

Sometimes I think we worry too much about the scammers and we risk cutting off someone because we get a subjective feeling before we even talk to them to find out. If you arent sure if they are a scammer but you think they are cute or whatever so you might like them if they turn out not to be, is to just keep them talking. Be smart but chat on.. They cant MAKE you go to another site and pay or send them money via paypal or give them your real info unless you want to. So just get them talking, either you will find out they are a real person and youll enjoy talking and getting to know them or sooner or later they will ask you to do something or their story will get weird and then you will know.

If he turns out to be a super wealthy orphan with only a sick sister who cant help him out when hes gotten captured by pirates off the coast of Mali while hard-hat deepwater scuba diving on a secret ancient shipwreck that only he knows about and If you pay his ransom he will split all the sunken treasure with you and you will live happily ever after... Well then you'll know, LOL and you will have a great story for your movie or the trashy romance novel you are going to write.. Or just something entertaining for the rest of us to read about here in the forums.

Just dont jump to conclusions too fast because somebody suggests another chat client, you might be misinterpretting the signs and miss out on somebody special.

Lol, i once made a joking comment about how somebody's profile said they were like Eve n sprung for my rib, meant to be.. blah blah... And jokingly I said id checked and couldnt find anything so pretty on my ribs, but it was hard to see around the back, as i was afraid id fall off the bathroom sink while trying to look in the mirror and it would be rather difficult to explain THAT in the emergency room.. She immediately called me a barbarian and blacklisted me. So to her, if shes reading this... yeah, i am a barbarian if you compare my welsh, gaulic and native american heritage to 9000 years of Chinese society, lol, but that was a pretty quick snap judgement.

And I have never scalped anybody...

Yet!

Thank you for your advice.I did mean skype. :) I believe the woman's sixth sense.Maybe I'm not so interested in him, that's why I had no further contact with him.I think most of the members here have enough common sense to judge a person.I won't waste too much time talking with a man on the line if he doest't attact me so much. :)

Men have very good intuition too... It works for everything except trying to understand women.

Well if you dont like him, of course theres no reason to go further.

@Apinkapple - did you know that you just wrote to yourself? Do you also talk to yourself like my wife does?

While I am being nosy I like your username - does it have any special meaning? I'm sure I'm not the only one who is curious.

It is said that men are from Mars while women from Venus. The love between men and women is some kind of chemical reaction.Maybe this is why it is hard for men to try to understand women. :)
