新年快乐 Happy New Year!

From: China 浙江(zhe jiang) 杭州(hang zhou ) @JohnAbbot Time : 2016-02-08 14:13:05

For many years now I have been stupidly wishing our Chinese members "Happy Chinese New Year" because to me, as a Westerner, it is not New Year, so it must be Chinese New Year.  But the reality is that to you Chinese it is simply New Year. January 1st is not New Year, it is Western New Year.

So please let me wish each and every one of you, 新年快乐 (Happy New Year).

May you fiod happiness, peace, love, goodwill and amazing financial growth in the coming year.

And I mean that from the very bottom of my heart. You members are family and you always will be.

Best regards, John

Happy New Year to you, too.

John, you are right. We use 2 kinds of calendars. One is the same as the western’s, another is lunar’s. Lunar Calender is more useful for the weather and planting. So It is right that you wish our Chinese members “Happy Chinese New Year”. When i was a child, I was taught to say “新年好”(Happy New Year). As the same as you have seen “It is simply New Year”. we also call the Chinese New Year as Spring Festival that is the biggest holiday in china. We called “Western New Year” as “元旦“in china.

Spring Festival was my favorite holiday when i was child. That’s because I could eat any thing that my mother would not allow me before, such as i could eat more snacks as i could before having dinner. And i would have a new clothing(during that time we had few chances to buy or make new clothing). I would get a red envelope filled with cash, too. I did once a test to know if a new cash paper is worth more than old one’s. I still remember my mother said to me emphatically “There are new cash papers in it instead of old ones” while she was handing me a red envelope. I went to a store with my red envelope happily and asked a saleswoman how much it was for a piece of sugar that attracted to me. After she answered me, i asked her again if i could use the same paper cash to buy one more piece of sweets or something else because they were new paper cash. Oh, how disappointed i got after hearing her responding. But i realized that the new paper money has the same value as the old’s, could not more. After growing older i realized people express their new hope by New paper for each. Red Envelope seems to become a good memory of Chinese people. Wechat and Alipay(include Baidu recently) have found a secret for their business from it. They have invented a kind of electronic Red Envelope to attract more people to join them. It might an investment in the area of advertisement for them. Smart businesses. As you wish Chinese people would get amazing financial growth in the coming year, some of Chinese people who are poor now will get help from country which our Chairman Xi has promised.

@QinQL My China "jigsaw puzzle" will never be completed. However, your insights always help me fit some of the pieces a little better. XieXie!

How can I catch the pace of the time and not waste a year? Only try to read more books in the book forget time, forget the time.

"How can I catch the pace of the time and not waste a year?"

A very good question, @seekdream.

One thought though is perhaps it's better to maybe waste a year, than to waste or make poor use of an entire lifetime, as I'm sure has sadly happened to many people out there. (doh)(doh)

@seekdream

"why do you want Ugly Men & Beautiful Chinese Ladies ?"

The reason I put photos of some not handsome Western men on my blogs is because I want to show beautiful Chinese ladies that many Western men are not good looking.

In fact, many Western men are quite ugly. (puke)

So if Chinese ladies can see the pictures of the hideous Western men on my blogs, at least they will know what they may see when they meet a real Western man face to face.

So in one way, my "Ugly Men" blogs are in fact providing a valuable public service to sweet Chinese ladies. (y)(clap)
