It happens.  With no conscious effort, without meaning to, or deciding to, or choosing to; you fall in love.  You may wish really hard for a different ending to a story you’ve read over and over; but just as fruitless as it is to hope against hope that a beautiful night will never end, the inevitable will always happen.  You don’t get to choose with whom, or when, or how.  You fall in love.  And you are as helpless as a bird in the air with a broken wing.  But it happens.  Sometimes, two people find and fall in love with each other at the worst possible time and in the least ideal situation.    Read more…

Last February 28th was my grandmother’s first birthday after she passed away.  Many times before, I would take the lead in making preparations for her birthday celebration.  I would make sure everybody came – her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – because I knew she was happiest when she saw her family together.  Family reunions were always a big deal to her because her children never got along; but like I have always said to those close to me, my grandmother was very lucky with the grandchildren she had.  We loved her dearly.  We more than made up for the shortcomings of her own children. Owning my actions is part of my code of ethics; if I’m gonna do something, I’ll claim it and take responsibility for it. It’s a very effective system of keeping myself in check; before I do anything, I think about whether or not it’s something I would be ashamed of claiming as my own later on. It has also proven to be a very effective test of the rightness of any decision I make. With that being said, I would have to admit that I “suffer” from the white skin fixation that is widespread among East Asians. I recognize that it is shallow and it can be unhealthy; some people will understand, others will judge. So be it! Read more…

The ugly and sad reality is, this so-called cultural prostitution does exist in the country and has become such a pervasive social custom that it has evolved into a cultural signifier for the country and marked Filipinas with a social stigma in the international community, particularly in the online dating industry. Another reality, however, is that it is but a sub-culture among many other sub-cultures in the country. The fact that Filipinas who belong in this sub-culture display very aggressive behaviors to attain their goals, combined with the fact that other Filipinas in other sub-cultures try to avoid being grouped together with their ill-behaved sisters, only solidify their characterization of the Filipina stereotype. “Make me paranoid”, said Alice to the White Rabbit. The Rabbit grinned, twitched its ears, and pulled a pocket watch out of its waistcoat. “I’m late!” it cried. Alice shrugged. “Internet online banking security in Asia”, the White Rabbit said. Alice fainted. Read more…

They say desperate times call for desperate measures. I have always understood this to mean that one is left no other choice but to engage in acts that are uncharacteristic of the person and that go against his/her morals and principles, sometimes even against society's norms and laws. When it is the former, the person often does not cause hurt to anybody else but himself/herself; when it is the latter, it is also often marked by complete disrespect and a lack of consideration for other people. We take a lot of pride here on CLM/ALM in introducing Achelle Vinzons to the blogs. To have such an intelligent and educated Filipina here blogging for us is a real coupe in our opinion. What Achelle has to offer us all, our members especially, is a chance to learn about the real majority of Filipinas, not the minority who have overwhelmed many Asian dating sites and given Filipinas generally an undeserved bad name. Achelle has been given as free a reign as any of our bloggers, and her opinions as expressed in her blogs are her own, not dictated by us. Here then is Achelle Verzons, a great new blogger: Read more…

Cold? Wet? Overworked? Underpaid, under loved, and under appreciated? Is that what’s troubling you, Bunkie? Maybe, oh ha ha ha, maybe, ha ha, there’s been some terrible misunderstanding and your government and economic system isn’t trying to get the last ounce of work and money out of you before melting your economic remains down for fat, like they used to do on whaling ships. We have briefly contemplated some of the comments and suggestions made in the two earlier blogs on this subject. To be perfectly frank, the contemplation lasted for about 5 minutes, because here in the background the reaction was unanimous and took little thought at all. Here at CLM/ALM we are not interested in expanding our horizons beyond what we are and always have been, dating sites committed to offering genuine and sincere Chinese and Asian women and genuine and sincere Western men who are seeking life partnerships with each other a safe, secure and enjoyable platform on which to meet, online date and hopefully find real love. This blog is going to go into two topics that are confounding us on how exactly to deal with each of them. They don’t come up very often but when they do they are the subject of great debate here in the back end of CLM/ALM. Being a westerner where we tend to let everyone have their own philosophy to live by, to live and let live as they say, I think quite differently about how we should deal with these issues than our Chinese manager and staff think. So I thought I’d canvass how the members feel, both East and West. I’m particularly interested to hear from the women members, both the Chinese women and Non-Chinese Asians, to see if there is a difference between the two. Read more…

We’re about to instruct our developer to start making some changes to the site pertaining to comments generally, whether on the eMagazine, Blogs or Forum, or in Scammer Prison or on Success Stories. My guess is that most of you were unaware you could comment on Success Stories, and likely do not much care, but just in case, now you know. Needless to say, comments on Success Stories do not stir up a whole lot of controversy or personal angst, but comments on the other places occasionally do and the first changes are aimed at alleviating some of the undeserved personal angst being suffered by those who are the subject of the comments, or the detrimental affect certain comments can have to the overall community spirit we wish to engender here on CLM/ALM. Have you ever noticed, how, far too often, real life intrudes on your very comfortable fantasy world? Oh, botheration! as my best friend Winnie the Pooh- I was speaking with him just the other day! - used to say. Just as you are ready to triumphantly this or triumphantly that - I always think about the woman I was destined to marry till I saw her holding hands by the side of the road with somebody else - mean old real life intrudes. The world economic meltdown is old news! The World Elite (of which you are, sadly, not a part) is up to even greater mischief! The World Elite doesn’t want you to read my new comic novel about Southeast Asia! It’s called “String Theory-the Novel”; and not, (in all modesty), since the Bible has there been anything like it. Maybe in the eyes of God all men are created equal, however, realistically that’s about where it ends. The stark reality is people worldwide usually, not always, remain in the social stratification they were born to. We all know and are fascinated with the “Rags to riches” stories of people who have come from nothing and “Made it big” with some innovative business idea or seemingly fantastic luck. Read more…

Hey, I’m down with Islam… great architecture, great poetry, great teachings, and breathtakingly beautiful women. What more can you ask of a world religion? Ever since I hitchhiked through North Africa I’ve been enamored of this truly great global religion.
