I was wakened this morning by the sound of Chinese—the nasal enunciation of those jack hammer monosyllables aroused me from my sleep as sure as if someone had poured cold water over my head. As my mind focused, I thought I recognized the rapid-fire monotone of a newscast or documentary emanating from some distant electronic device. Suddenly, the thought occurred to me that, for reasons my half-awake state of consciousness could not currently recollect, I had returned to China—or perhaps had never left. Turning towards the window and seeing the blue sky I relaxed, knowing I could not possibly be back in Chengdu. Realizing Yong was beside me in bed both cemented my belief that I was indeed in the States and revealed the source of the sound. Read more…

Many of you familiar with the blogs and forum know that I’m a Christian through the various comments I’ve made there, and the debates I’ve entered into concerning climate change, apologetics, politics, macro-evolution, comparative cultures, US History, Chinese culture, worldviews, religion, and homosexuality.  I’m a Christ-follower who used to be a religious person. I attended church and embraced a New Age/Buddhist/Hindu worldview. I came to trust and follow Jesus while a Senior in High School. Read more…

The subject for my second blog entry will be, as the title suggests, the criteria for my ideal match, why I chose them and why Chinese women.  While this will certainly provide the members of CLM with a great deal of insight into myself, I'm not at all certain just how generally applicable those insights will be to the typical American as I have never regarded myself as typical in any respect.  I'm just arrogant enough to believe that this subject will be interesting to at least some of my readers.             My name is Roger and I am rather new to CLM, having joined on September 24th.  I am a 52-year-old divorced man currently living in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.  My ex-wife is a Chinese lady whom I met through online dating.  Unfortunately, our marriage lasted only for three years.  I'll go into more detail about the reasons for the failure of my marriage in a future installment. China has long been known for its wonderful ability to copy products. In March this year there was a national 'awareness day' during which people were told to consider the implications of buying 'knock-off' products. Copying products is almost part of Chinese culture itself. Read more…

When you are dating Chinese women or Western men online, being able to video chat with them becomes essential at some point, both to assure yourself that she or he is the person they sya they are in their profile photos, and so you can spend time seriously getting to know each other. Read more…

Providing CLM members with blogs is not solely about entertainment. It's about sharing experiences and giving advice to others. Whether or not a member chooses to take that advice is another matter. A couple of years ago I traveled to Thailand with a lady that I met on CLM. Although things didn't work out for us, I have absolutely no regrets in doing so. The decision to write about it here for all-and-sundry to read (many ladies included), was perhaps not the wisest decision I have ever made. Being a 'philandering playboy' may have once been an aspiration, but it's not the 'real' me. Read more…

I was already thinking of throwing a "doing business in China" oriented blog in here, and then a friend sent me this and I decided that this was more to the point than what I had planned on writing. You need to pay very careful attention to this because there is an important point here that everyone planning to start doing business in China or with Chinese businessmen must understand. It is also relevant often enough in negotiating your future with the Chinese woman you are dating and considering as your life partner. Read more…

When I first came to my QLV to take up my job as an English teacher, I was given the task of teaching a subject called 'Civics'. 'What the hell is civics?' I thought, yet dare not speak the words aloud for fear of making myself look 'ignorant' in the eyes of my Chinese boss. Read more…

Okay, I admit that maybe I was overreacting but enough is enough! Someone brought to my attention a braindead article that got posted not once, but twice, in two major publications. In it The Telegraph UK and ChinaDailyAsia take the basic approach that every western guy who is attracted to Chinese or Asian women is suffering from a sexual perversion. Needless to say, as someone married to a great Chinese woman, and as co-owner of CLM and ALM, I was more than a little pissed at this crap being published as if it was an unquestioned fact, when it is actually a careless and extremely insulting slur with no basis in fact whatsoever. The word has recently come out that Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have split the sheets, much to the horror of their many fans.  Worse though, was the way the world learned of this popular couples’ marriage coming to an end. It all came to light when, it seems, Miss Piggy sunk to the depths and publicly displayed herself in that worst of all dating havens, where only those bent on sexual conquests harbor any hope of meeting someone. She came out, all full of herself, on the pages of Tinder. This sad news was first reported, to our knowledge, here… Read more…

We have been distracted lately from our usual pre-occupation with dating Chinese women, and somehow caught up in a debate over, not whether there is a God, so much as is that an appropriate subject for an online dating site's blogs. For those of you who think I've been overly analytical and critical of Paul and/or his blog, I'd just like to point out that there are no other blogs on any dating site anywhere, where the subject ever would have come up. That's because our blogs are written by real members who generally get to voice their thoughts on anything important to them.  Read more…

This blog started out as a response to comments made on Peter’s blog How to Fall in Love with a Chinese Woman and you should go read that blog and the comments there to better understand the issues discussed here, but I have tried to write this in a way that you will be able to get it without doing that if you don’t have much time. Having said that, the issue being discussed by Peter in his blog, and the arising issue discussed here, are crucial issues in online dating, especially international online dating, so if that’s what you’re into then you should take the time and read it all. This article on The Beijinger website, written by Michael Wester, references a trending, online rant that appeared recently on WeChat and positively reeks of anti-laowai, racist propaganda and sexist hogwash! To be clear, Michael Wester is merely describing the rant, and is not in any way appearing to agree with its content, nor in any way adding to the foul odor pervading from it. In fact, he appears to feel, perhaps to a lesser degree, somewhat the same way as we do here at CLM, and his article is an infomative read. We simply wish to add our perhaps less subtle thoughts on the subject. Read more…
