If I let you into a little secret, John has mentioned, on a couple of occasions, that recent blogs have had little to do with online dating. Let's fix that, shall we? Read more…

“In order to find yourself, first you must lose yourself.“  I felt rather annoyed by the smug words written in the stupid book in front of me. A supposedly learned treatise on how to live life and feel better. What utter bullshit it was!  How dare they suggest that people should become dysfunctional or desperate, before somehow miraculously stumbling across some sort of supposed salvation. Much better to simply skip the bit about becoming lost and go straight to deliverance! Read more…

Recently a new member posted a thread on the Forum in which he expressed concerns on a number of items, but specifically was concerned that he had messaged one member twice and so far not received a reply. He originally sent it as a letter to CLM, but we suggested he post a thread in order to get a broader range of responses. This blog is my in response to that thread, which you can find here: Read more…

Asian and Chinese internet dating is, like all online dating, rife with people trying to disengage you from your cash through various forms of internet scams. We try to protect you from these people and one of our best lines of defence is member reporting which we highly encourage. Unlike most dating sites who simply pretend sammers don't exist, we investigate every report and it is one of the best tools we have for getting rid of these people who are at best a waste of your time and at worst extremely vile criminals.  Read more…

Don’t judge a book by its cover.  This is one saying that should be taken to heart by any foreign man seriously looking for a Chinese wife through Chinese online dating.  More specifically, do not believe right away that a woman’s photo is an “accurate” representation of her real looks, especially when she is all made up in it and in all the other photos in her profile.  Read more…

Following a few days settling in to my new teacher's quarters, my first English class was looming.  In fact, it was the very next day.  Having never had any teaching experience,  I was understandably a bit nervous. Read more…

Okay, you're on a chat with the service department of some vendor, you know the girl yu are talking to has the name "Jessica", and that reminds you of a cartoon rabbit that was once the dream girl of every guy who had the slightest trace of an imagination, and suddenly in the face of insurmountable odds you find yorself having a little fantasy. It can happen to any guy, right? Read more…

“Do they really eat the fish that they catch there?” I ask Tina as we walked slowly past a bunch of fishermen with lines dangling limply into the muddy waters of the Shawan River.  Tina and I were on our way home, after a big afternoon of exploring many of the back block areas around her home town of Shawan. “You have the right to kill me.  But you do not have the right to judge me”.  These were the classic lines as spoken by Marlon Brando in one of the greatest films of all time, “Apocalypse Now” (1979).  I couldn’t help but think about this as Tina and I sauntered back to our house in the late afternoon.  All around me were a myriad of sights, merchants spruiking their wares; cab drivers hurtling up the road; shoppers closely inspecting items on the footpath they were considering buying. To recap the scenario from the preceding article, I was in a real pickle. I’d suffered a bad bout of diarrhoea in Tina’s apartment on the very day that her toilet had stopped working. I'd been forced to run to her bathroom and unfortunately filled it up with an overflowing mess of poop. Tina in the meantime had dashed out to the shops and her return was imminent.  Read more…

It was morning in Shawan.  Tina and I had just finished breakfast.  I had no idea what she gave me to eat each morning, it was some sort of noodle concoction that tasted somewhat bland yet was nice enough.  Back home, my breakfast typically consisted of a bowl full of almonds, cashews, brazil nuts and pecans.   Topped off with half a cup of mixed pumpkin and sunflower seeds. It was getting quite late.  Tina and I had been trekking cautiously through the dark in the far hills surrounding Shawan, her beloved home town.  We’d miscalculated and found ourselves in this unnerving predicament, after spending too long visiting a half completed Buddhist monastery hidden on the top of one of the distant hills.  The caretaker monk there was astonished to see a Westerner visiting the place, as even most Chinese in the area hardly knew about it, let alone went to the trouble of traipsing to it.  He thus gave us a comprehensive tour of the temple, proudly showing off its major highlights. Tina and I had a two hour trek back to home.  Probably a lot longer than this, due to the fact we had no light or torch to help guide us through the treacherous scrub.  Hiking in the dark hills around Shawan on a pitch black, moonless night was certainly not for the faint of heart.  Especially when out of the blackness, a low rumbling noise mysteriously appeared, causing both Tina and I to suddenly feel quite frightened.  Read more…
