I moved forwards in trust but never in blind faith. I did not have a fortune at my disposal so I had to trust but also be wary at the same time. The serious commitments to the restaurant venture and a new house could not be taken lightly. I was aware of some of the horror stories involved in dating Asian women, and Thai women in particular. I had read the blog articles and the best-selling book on the subject. I hoped and prayed I wasn’t about to sleepwalk into a nightmare. I have a trusting nature. I tend to trust people until I find out otherwise. That’s the way I am. I knew that so why worry about the future? Read more…

The subject for my second blog entry will be, as the title suggests, the criteria for my ideal match, why I chose them and why Chinese women.  While this will certainly provide the members of CLM with a great deal of insight into myself, I'm not at all certain just how generally applicable those insights will be to the typical American as I have never regarded myself as typical in any respect.  I'm just arrogant enough to believe that this subject will be interesting to at least some of my readers. The rest of the remaining month soon passed. Why do happy times seem fleeting? Yet, bad times seem to linger. I had to make plans to leave the villa in Kanchanaburi. Noi and I both knew the time was fast approaching for me to fly back to England. She understood the reasons why I had to leave. I assured her I would return as quickly as possible. Certainly, once I had attended to outstanding business back there. Read more…

All three of us set off to view the house. It was on the northern outskirts of Kanchanaburi. Despite my GPS, I had difficulty finding the location. The road appeared to peter out. Just a gate and a track to the left where the road came to an abrupt end. I turned down the track. Read more…

I awoke from my sleep of contentment. It was filled with pleasant dreams partly as a result of Noi’s welcome massage. My slumbers had eradicated all the tiredness of travel from England to Thailand. I looked forward to my second day in a new country and a new life. Dating was something I had forgotten. It was a distant memory from a distant past. Read more…

Our taxi driver had said little during the journey from the airport to Patong. He had exchanged a few words in Thai with Noi but that was at the Tesco Lotus superstore. The taxi took about another twenty minutes before we reached our hotel but not before negotiating the notorious Telegraph Hill on the approach to Patong. I only learned of its notoriety from Noi. It had been the scene of many deaths owing to collisions between vehicles and larger trucks and buses overturning. Read more…

I climbed into the front seat of the Mercedes taxi at the airport. Noi suggested it would be better for my long legs. She sat behind me on the 45-minute trip to Patong hotel. She threw her arms around my neck and kept them there all the way to the hotel I had booked before leaving England. She talked and asked questions, mainly about the flight. She asked if I was tired. I told her that surprisingly I felt fine. Noi spoke in a gentle soft voice. I found it soothing. It was so calming that I did feel sleepy but fought the jetlag weariness. There were moments of silence between our initial conversations. There was nothing awkward about that. It felt natural. When Noi was silent, she would gently massage my neck and shoulders. The trip in the taxi took about forty-five minutes and it gave me an opportunity to see Thailand from the ground for the first time. Read more…

“Ryan” “Ryan” I heard my name called. This was in spite of the shouts of vendors and honking car horns.  The air outside Phuket International Airport was full of noises.  They assaulted me from all directions. I turned toward the direction of the voice and saw a diminutive Thai woman running toward me. I recognized her immediately. It was Noi, “the little one.” Read more…

I stood outside the Pattaya bar that for thirteen lucky, money making years had been called “Defeat Al Qaeda!” (Lonely guys on both sides welcome!)  The Rajah was watching sadly as the workmen carefully separated, then took down, from over the large front entrance doors, the section of neon which spelled out “Al Qaeda” in curving glass tubes. First of all, I would like to say that I highly commend my co-blogger, Peter, for bringing up and so articulately discussing this controversial issue, especially because he belongs to the opposite sex.  He has pointed out in his blog "Who Needs Feminism" that, Read more…

Firstly, Thanks John for your comments in Part 1 - I completely understand when you say that 50+ (year-olds) don't necessarily COME here to find a woman much younger than they are - they kind of 'stumble' across them and the rest comes 'naturally' (so to speak) Read more…

Why remember now, after so many years?  And perhaps more importantly, how could she have repressed such a terrible experience?  Her relationship with her papa never changed even after it happened.  Even now, as the memories continue to crash like waves over her, threatening to drown her, she can’t remember ever being emotionally and psychologically damaged by the abuse; at least, not in the same way that most children who suffered the same were usually damaged.  Read more…

Fate, destiny, pure chance, or just the inevitable result of the collective choices we make; but it can be simply amazing how two people walking parallel or even divergent paths eventually find each other, and from that point forward become forever intertwined despite being separated again and again by circumstances and time.
