International Dating: My Story - Thai Road trip

328 Views | 6 Comments | 0 Articles | 7/22/2017 1:21:56 PM

We wandered around to the night market once more in Chiang Mai. A good excuse to drink another couple of Guinness. After all, I am a creature of habit. It had been a satisfying day. I could now look forward to collecting the D Max in two days’ time. Read more…

International Dating: My Story - Cash is King in Asian Culture

The two cars that interested me were both double cab pick up trucks. One an Isuzu D Max and the other a Nissan Navarra. Noi was right, today was my turn to go shopping - for wheels. Read more…

International Dating: My Story - Chiang Mai

445 Views | 3 Comments | 0 Articles | 6/13/2017 5:52:09 AM

The more I read about the Chiang Mai company, the better it got. It was owned and operated by an American guy. I know that in itself did not prevent being ripped off but there was something reassuring about dealing with him. I did not relish spending money on a car with a Thai dealership. That isn’t a racist sentiment. It is a fact. There are too many cross cultural issues and the language barrier in dealing with Thai businesses.  Besides, I was looking for a used vehicle. If it had been otherwise, then I would have trusted the Thai main dealerships to buy a new car. Warranties are warranties, right? Read more…

International Dating: My Story - Sex Tourists

943 Views | 3 Comments | 0 Articles | 5/31/2017 2:23:09 PM

It was only 10.30 am but who cared? I ordered my English breakfast and a pint of Guinness - the ‘black stuff.’ They were the only things I was going to miss in my new life in Asia. Sure, I had family in England and I would miss some of them some of the time. But, owing to my acrimonious divorce the kids had shunned me. It hurt. My way of dealing with the hurt was to ignore it. It was packed away deep in my mind. There was no turning back and no time for regrets. Read more…

International dating: My Story - Packing My Bags

827 Views | 7 Comments | 0 Articles | 5/18/2017 1:22:37 PM

There were so many things to see to before I finally left England and flew back to Thailand. Most of them were connected with finances. It was clear to me that I would have to open a Thai bank account soon after my return. When I wasn’t attending to my finances then I was online connecting to the world. Read more…

International dating: My Story - England Again

507 Views | 5 Comments | 0 Articles | 4/28/2017 11:25:28 AM

Noi and I had said our farewells at the airport in Bangkok. I detest airport farewells. I get emotional. The month in Thailand had gone by all too quickly. And, I was not looking forward to England for many reasons. But, I knew my stay there would be brief. I was sad to be leaving Noi. But, we had got to know each other well. Our future was looking good. The trip had also resulted in us finding the house at Kanchanaburi. I could look forward to my return and settling down in that area. Read more…

International Dating: My Story - The Dictionary

The rest of the remaining month soon passed. Why do happy times seem fleeting? Yet, bad times seem to linger. I had to make plans to leave the villa in Kanchanaburi. Noi and I both knew the time was fast approaching for me to fly back to England. She understood the reasons why I had to leave. I assured her I would return as quickly as possible. Certainly, once I had attended to outstanding business back there. Read more…

International Dating: My Story - Happy Families

742 Views | 4 Comments | 0 Articles | 10/6/2016 10:23:18 AM

All three of us set off to view the house. It was on the northern outskirts of Kanchanaburi. Despite my GPS, I had difficulty finding the location. The road appeared to peter out. Just a gate and a track to the left where the road came to an abrupt end. I turned down the track. Read more…

International Dating: My Story - Bridge on the River Kwai

670 Views | 5 Comments | 0 Articles | 9/8/2016 10:12:28 AM

This was my first trip to Thailand. My first real experience of Asia and Asian culture. Many years before, I had a two-night stopover in KL on my way to Australia. I don’t count that as truly experiencing Asia. I wasn’t there long enough. I stayed at a Shangi-La hotel catering for western tourists and ate western food in their fine restaurant. I hardly mixed with local people apart from a tiring walk through the thronged and narrow flea market at Chinatown’s Petaling Street. Read more…
