Hi Peter. You've obviously have developed a good beginning understanding of Chinese women through your time spent both teaching and no doubt socializing in ChengDu. Do you have any experience that relates to women of other Asian cultures that could also be passed on to the members of ALM?

Hmmm. Well, I have spent a good amount of time in Thailand. It seems that both Thai women and Chinese women family is of utmost importance. Perhaps the obligation to support the parents is a little stronger in Chinese culture. Perhaps the Thai woman will often have brothers and sisters to help with the process while the Chinese woman is often an only child. But the importance of the family--especially the obligation of child to parent--plays an role in the Thai woman's life that it does not in the life of most Western women. And I think you have to understand this when dating Thai women as well as Chinese women. I think this holds for other Asian cultures as well.

Another opinion: My professor of sociology had told us when I was 19 years old, " The purpose of marriage is in order to live better." I wonder why the students of 80s' & 90s' who think that the purpose of good careers and jobs are in order to get a marriage? My father is a writer who was very calm when I decided to divorce. My parents welcame me returnning thier home. They love me and my son so much. They just have two daughters: me and my young sister.
