Say What You Will

The Airbus A340 from Hainan airlines roared in the runway and took off like an Asian tiger. In the high tech era we get a direct flight from Toronto to Beijing in just 13 hours. I loved this route, far better than to fly over the Pacific. If you live in the North of the US and will be flying to China to meet your sweetheart, please consider this route. The cost was $1,300 (Canadian currency) for a two-way ticket. Of course prices are different at different times of the year. At the time of high season in China or during the Chinese festivals it will cost you hundreds more. Please also consider Chicago too and as a port of entry in China, try Hong Kong or Shanghai, just shop around.

In my life, I had dozens of international flights, for business and leisure, to the four corners of the planet but this one had a special flavour, I was going to meet the young lady that is now my sweet Chinese wife.

At the age of fly-by-wire, the skillful Chinese Captain took us over the North of Canada, Alaska and Siberia and headed to Beijing. Everything white, frozen solid down there. The last time I saw so much ice was in the 80s in Northern Ontario.

I give two thumbs up to Hainan Airlines, a flawless flight with no incidents. The service was pretty much Chinese, the crew was fast, friendly and efficient. I could not help to notice that they did not serve alcoholic beverages. In my opinion this is a very positive move since I have been in flights where we had fist fights due to drunk people misbehaving, disgusting and dangerous to say the least. We had plenty of refreshments to choose from and also coffee and the good Chinese tea. We smoothly landed in Beijing right on schedule.

Her brother, a nice and friendly guy, was waiting for me. He drove me to Angela’s mother place where I had a rest for few hours and then we went back to the airport to catch a domestic flight to the capital on Minxian’s province. From there we took the bullet train to Wenling, where Angela lives. Wenling is a county of the capital city. It is amazing that a county in China has 3 million inhabitants, the population of Metro Toronto, the largest and most important Canadian city.

My sweetheart was at the train station to pick me up and it was a very emotional moment for both of us.

My observations about China are limited for the 4 months I spent there. I stayed most of the time in Wenling and I visited Hangzhou (just beautiful, very rich) and did few trips around the rural belt that surrounds Wenling. I also went to Beijing and I visited the Imperial Palace and went to the Great Wall, simply fascinating. I missed the chance to go to Shanghai, because I had a cold the day we planned to go. But this trip was not about tourism, it was about getting married. Next time we will go to Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and specially the Chinese paradise, Hainan.

All things considered, I feel highly positive about China. I enjoyed being there, its friendly and hard working people is the best asset of the country. China is in spite of its amazing 5 thousand years of intriguing History an extremely modern country, very wealthy and no wonder it became a super power. They certainly deserve everything they achieved through their efforts, intelligence and discipline.

Very busy I might say. Lots of stores, excellent supermarkets, malls, good restaurants, lots of street vendors that add colour to the city, They have good hospitals, dozens of good high schools, colleges, Universities etc. There is nothing I could possibly say in any language that would make justice to China.

God blessed us already and Minxian (Angela) should give birth to our child around the end of March 2014. I returned to Canada to prepare her immigration, but if we feel that it might take longer than we hope, I will go back to China at once and stay with her till the child’s birth and we come to Canada the three of us.

For us is totally irrelevant if we gonna get a girl or a boy, we will love our angel with all our heart. I do not ask God for a Miss China or a Ma Yo Yo, all I ask is for a decent, honest, healthy, happy and sweet person.

Friends, I always said that it is not easy to establish a relationship in a dating site, specially between people of so distinct cultures. There is the distance, language barriers etc, but please, always bear in mind that IT IS possible. Relationships are never easy, even in your own country, your own city, with people that share the same language, culture, values etc. However, love is Universal. It is about a man and a woman and the willingness to compromise, to be tolerant, to be kind and to try really hard to live in harmony.

I wish you all the very best with all my heart. I did it against all odds. I am in no way special. If it was possible for me to be blessed, it is always possible for you to be also blessed!!! Never give up, never surrender, never accept defeat, just do it!!!, go for it!!!

Minxian and I are writing a sincere THANK YOU note to John Abbot and the hard working staff of CLM. Thanks to this site, our dream came true and we will never forget that. Minxian will write a special note in Chinese to the ladies on the site, when we write in 2 or 3 days the thank you note, so long overdue.

What a great story, Daniel - thank you so much for sharing it.

I especially like your words,

"Relationships are never easy, even in your own country, your own city, with people that share the same language, culture, values etc. However, love is Universal. It is about a man and a woman and the willingness to compromise, to be tolerant, to be kind and to try really hard to live in harmony."

This in fact very neatly sums up the entire rationale of this website. Bringing people together who otherwise quite probably would never have had the opportunity to meet. Especially given the large number of professional scam dating websites out there that are absolutely devoid of any scruples or morals whatsoever. They blithely rip so many decent people off, no doubt leaving many fine folk totally disillussioned and embittered with the whole internet dating process.

These scam romance sites must be controlled by gangs of very conniving and clever sociopaths without conscience, otherwise how could they keep doing such heinous acts in the name of love? Why does Google keep accepting their money? Probably because there's so much of it - why kill the fraudulent goose that lays the golden egg, even if the wealthy goose in fact is a criminal gander! Thank the good Lord for honest sites such as CLM.

Anyway Daniel, I hope to go to China in 2014 and with a little bit of luck, follow in your illustrious footsteps. Congratulations indeed to both you and your dear wife. Wonderful and inspiring stuff, giving fresh hope to all the rest of us out here.

Wow, Daniel, your wife is so beautiful and young…
Yes it is quite understandable to find a young wife and start a total new life to both of you
I think so in on line searching, we really could find more chances to meet quality person, which is not easy to meet in our daily life, it attacts me a lot…
And I also go to your thank letter page, it is so good to know from your wife’s perspective, it always takes two parties to tell a love story. I could see your wife’s heart there, it is so great…
Enjoy your time together, and Congralations!!

@Barry 1 Hi Barry, thank you for your always kind words. Yes, China far surpasses anything we can imagine in our wildest dreams, it is a fascinating country in every way. A word of advice. if you allow me, get one of these "electronic translators", some of these gadgets do work, I am told, check prices and reviews. The alternative would be to buy one of those paperback pocket books with 2 or 3 hundred key sentences and words, like "Please", "thank you", "how much does this cost" etc and try one of these tutorials in the web to learn few simple sentences. Please do not assume that people will speak English in China, they do not, is that simple. Even the young people, I seldom came across someone that could even say "hello". Of course if you go to Guandong (Guanzhou), Hong Kong and the mega cities like Shanghai, Beijing or the industrial heartland and the mega hub Shenzhen, you will be able to meet expats, business people etc and communication will be easier. However, if you go to certain provinces or up North, you better know few words or you will have to use non verbal communication. Even on this I was lucky, because my wife is fluent in English, but if I did not have her on side, I could not even get a cab. I was totally dependent on my wife even to order food. In a supermarket, I would get a grocery and walk to the cashier, but if the lady asked me a question I would just smile. Needless to say I wish you the very best. Do not get discouraged by my words, it is worth the effort, you will succeed my friend. May God bless you.
