Chinese Women, Asian Women, Online Dating & Things Chinese and Asian
Barry from Australia is a questioning soul who looks at social issues from an alternative point of view and instead of asking, “Why?”, he asks “Why not?” He’s convinced that many of his previous incarnations were spent in China. He feels drawn to the people there; attracted by their rich culture and way of life. If given one wish from God, he’d reply, “I want everyone on Earth to be the same colour, speak the same language, and treat each other as they themselves would like to be treated.”

Barry made the following suggestion to John

May I proffer the suggestion that you get someone twenty or thirty years younger.  Someone who is not so inward looking;  someone fresh faced and eager to turn a new page with renewed enthusiasm and pacey, exciting ideas?

It's too bad that I'm an old fart, otherwise I'd volunteer to do it (for free).  But CLM needs someone much younger than I.  And someone much more tolerant than Paul Fox.

I don’t think age or staleness is the real problem here. Someone who has experienced both a failed and a successful Chinese woman/ western man relationship, has good people skills and has a high degree of computer literacy would be ideally suited to be the moderator for CLM. Two out of three ain’t bad. John is only let down by his low level of computer literacy. His age and length of time doing the moderating job are not a problem. On the contrary, they are an asset. CLM is unique.

Sorry to say this Barry but even if you were 30 years younger you would still be one of the last people that I would want doing the CLM moderating job. CLM is not a newsletter that needs to be spiced up. The goal of CLM is simple and clear. If that is not enough to motivate CLM members to use the site to its fullest then it is they themselves that have a problem.

I believe there is a wealth of very useful information already on CLM but unfortunately, much of it is buried under a mountain of crap. We don’t need more “exciting and controversial” spiced up crap. Maybe John just needs a highly computer literate co-moderator. Maybe readers could start offering suggestions for a top ten most useful list for each of the three CLM categories - blogs, forum threads and Magazine articles. This list could expand to a larger number and eventually be integrated to the whole site with appropriate clickable links.

Hello Barry,

just got a minute and found that you are blogging again.

Anyway I have been reading the comments from @paulfox1 and want to ask

if there actaully was a date? I have  to admit that I have not read the previous blog or this one in great detail. More of a skimming on the edges, speed reading, if you know what I mean. So before my ancient eyes are reading every word I like to know when and where this date was and with whom?

You write : ................the reason is that I'm gradually expunging all of my inner anguish out onto paper.

How about I send you a link to a book that the author will give the first ten chapeters for free. Like a debugging of you brain if you like.

The artwork is masterful. Is this your creation?

PS. Yes still happily married to the same wonderful woman i met on CLM.

Thanks for your comments, Nekko.

In answer to your question, there was in fact a date and a story around it that I was leading up to.  But then I received so much criticism and incredible ill will about this blog series that I ended up abandoning it altogether, despite the fact I'd already written most of it.

On a brighter note however, I've scored another job in China, this time in Chairman Mao's home town of Yanan in Shanxi Province. Hopefully starting around 20 April. Next month.  If this goes ahead, with the cognisance of editor John Abbot, I'll commence a new blog series.

As for the blog artwork, it came from the internet.  As for the book you mentioned, I'm so busy these days I wouldn't have time to read it.

Wonderful to hear about your continued happy marriage, Nekko.

Cheers mate.  :)

Thanks for this, Melcyan.

As usual, I'm quite nervous about the whole thing.  Heading to a small one room dorm in a strange university in a strange city in a strange part of China, one I'm quite unfamiliar with. Then teaching young adult students as best that I can, that may or may not be, good enough. At age 63 - 64 later this year  - I'll be the oldest teacher in the university by at least eight years. I think there is one or maybe two Western teachers there, that most likely will also be way younger than me.

I could lead a comfortable retired life here right now if I wanted to but that would be too easy.   My friends and my Chinese ex-wife here in Australia think I'm nuts to do what I'm doing.

But then again, I'm not there yet. Until I actually buy the air ticket and jump on the aircraft, anything could still happen.  It's not an easy decision, I can assure you. I could still pull out.   :^)
