Barry from Australia is a questioning soul who looks at social issues from an alternative point of view and instead of asking, “Why?”, he asks “Why not?” He’s convinced that many of his previous incarnations were spent in China. He feels drawn to the people there; attracted by their rich culture and way of life. If given one wish from God, he’d reply, “I want everyone on Earth to be the same colour, speak the same language, and treat each other as they themselves would like to be treated.”

@Barry1

you wrote.............It would be quite easy for me to put my pen down...........!(talk)
Well I am glad you did not. Yes, I agree, it would have been easier to put up the feet and turn on the TV.
Why do you continue to muse over these things Barry. Only when you reflect on these matters will the true nature of yourself be revealed to yourself.
To truly know and understand the nature of self is no easy task. To understand the self is a worthwhile and truly magnificent endeavour.

Keep pondering and asking questions Barry. Some of us like to read the thoughts and
understandings according to yourself.

Keep up the good work and put the feet under the table and the pen, or the keyboard in the hand.

Cheers,

Hello Nekko and thank you for your comments.

My writing has slowed down at the moment because I'm planning another China trip soon and I've a lot to do here.

It's good folk such as yourself that helps me to keep writing my articles. What I say is not everyone's cup of tea of course, but no big deal. The last thing I want to be is routine and predictable.

I really hope things between you and your lovely Chinese wife are good. You're a true inspiration to us all.

Cheers mate. (y)(beer)

You ask ...............I really hope things between you and your lovely Chinese wife are good???????

Barry, I have to tell you the truth. Things are not good between me and my Chinese wife.

Since she has arrived in Sydney the relationship has improved to a state of
wonderful happiness for both of us. Things are absolutely marvellous between us.

Her son arrived 5 weeks ago. He is great and taller than me. he just finished his Uni degree. He will return to China for about 5 month to see his grandfather.
The son will return to Sydney early next year.

This gives my wife and I a chance to travel to Switzerland to see my family for about
4 weeks.

Yes I read on another blog that you will travel and stay in a tiny apartment.
This will be a shock to the system coming from a mansion like yours.

The things we do for love.

I am looking forward to read more of your adventure into the unknown world of teaching.
This could be perfect place to improve the understanding between western and Chinese culture, young and old people.

No more trowing sh^##t from the window. You will be a tenant there soon. ;)
You will be known as the sh^^**&t thrower if you do not desist in this activity.

Keep the up the writing and the photos.(happy)

Cheers,(y)

"No more trowing shit from the window. You will be a tenant there soon.
You will be known as the shit thrower if you do not desist in this activity."

You are very funny sometimes, Nekko - well done! (y)(y)

But honestly, if Tina's toilet breaks down and I have to do a Number 2, I cannot guarantee what I may or may not do in such a circumstance. My only advice would be to not stand close to any of the windows around Tina's apartment at that time! (rofl)

It's fantastic news indeed to hear how well things are going in your life, Nekko. This is really great to hear.

As far as my forthcoming teaching duties in China are concerned however, I have no idea how I'll go. I've never taught before.

I've asked Tina's 17 year old daughter Wendy to accompany me in the classes, in case I freeze up and don't know what to say. And you know what? Wendy agreed to do this, good girl that she is! :D

@Barry1

I am waiting for the continuation of the story? What is happening Barry.
Heading: " Round eyes teaches English and trows shit".

Seriously you have a teenager hold your hand in the class room. How hard can it be?

How is the mattress in Tina's place? When I was in Baotou the mattress was only 1 inch thick. My hip hurt every morning. Even a Japanese futon on the floor was more comfortable.

Anyway start writing and tell us the adventures you have.

best wishes

I am really pleased that everything is going so well for you and your wife. When will you be writing your story for CLM?
I laughed when I read your words "Seriously you have a teenager hold your hand in the class room. How hard can it be? "
Teaching is hard and always needs an idiot proof plan B for when you strike trouble in the classroom. It is clear that Barry's idiot proof plan B is to replace the idiot with Wendy. I like it.

Thanks for the witty comments, you guys.

As for the mattress in Tina's place, it was hard on my first visit. So when I returned to Australia, I changed my mattress there to a harder one, thus allowing me to become accustomed to those firm ones so commonly found in China. This clever technique worked well.

I'll continue the "My China Trip" series as soon as possible. In the meantime, please look out for a few forthcoming articles on an ageing plodder's journey to China to become a teacher, a job the poor plodder has nil experience in.

Yes, that ageing plodder is me.

Sorry in advance to all the students who may not know what to think when the said plodder bumbles hesitatingly into their room with a set of notes and preparatory material that could be written on the back of a postage stamp.

@Barry1

I am looking forward to read more of your adventures.

As for the mattress, my hip replacement is not needed now as I have recovered.

Yes everything is going fantastic with my wife. I never knew that such happiness
can be between two people.

I thought Wendy was still going to school? She cannot hold your hand every day in school.

How long do you plan to stay in China? How is the chopstick eating going? any problems with this? Marriage has been discussed?(whew)

Please keep the readership informed about the state of affairs between you and Tina.
We want to know the details. All the details and the facts.

Waiting and hoping for a speedy answer to all questions posed.

Cheers,
nekko
