Barry from Australia is a questioning soul who looks at social issues from an alternative point of view and instead of asking, “Why?”, he asks “Why not?” He’s convinced that many of his previous incarnations were spent in China. He feels drawn to the people there; attracted by their rich culture and way of life. If given one wish from God, he’d reply, “I want everyone on Earth to be the same colour, speak the same language, and treat each other as they themselves would like to be treated.”

"I notice that this blog, like so many others in the series has a single vote for "Boring" by the readers. I'm sure we can agree this has to be the same person"

Thanks for your comments, John.

Whilst I agree it's the same person who keeps clicking the "Boring" button on many of my articles, I can assure you it's not Tina. If it was her, she'd click on the "Shocking" button, as on many occasions, she'd be aghast at what I've written here!

Ninety-nine per cent of the photos I've taken of her she doesn't like also. So in similar fashion, she'd have a heart attack if she saw some of the pictures of her that I've placed on CLM.

I agree it's quite curious though - if the person who keeps hitting the "boring" button on my articles finds them so, why does he keep reading them, time after time?:^)

As for your anecdote about Marty Robbins, I learnt long ago that life sometimes is very strange indeed, full of surprises and unexpected coincidences. This happens to be a great example of just this. Interesting stuff indeed.(wasntme)

Each time I've gone to KTV, the very first song I search for is El Paso by Marty Robbins (or any possible remake in the machine). Second is "Folsom Prison Blues" by Johnny Cash.

"Marty Was "Cool""

Thanks for your interesting reminiscences, Gongji.

Yep, Marty was way cool.

In fact, of all the singers out there, Marty's velvety smooth baritone would have to be one of my all time favorite singing voices.

Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia about Marty, who died at just 57 from heart problems:

"Robbins portrayed a musician in the 1982 Clint Eastwood film Honkytonk Man.

He died a few weeks before the release of the film in December 1982 of complications following cardiac surgery. It was Robbins' third heart attack in 13 years.

The city of El Paso, Texas, later honored Robbins by naming a park and a recreational center after him. Marty's twin sister Mamie Ellen Robinson Minotto died on March 14, 2004, when she was partway through writing a book about her brother "Some Memories: Growing up with Marty Robbins".

RIP Marty, you died way too young. :(

I would tend to think the person hitting the "boring" button is one of our female members as the majority of the women here may not really get the jest of your humour, or it is "George" (rofl)

"or it is "George""

Thanks for this, Anon12722.

You may well be right here about a lady not understanding my attempts at humour.

Although it's not George - both Tina and I said hello to him just a week or so ago, wishing him all the best.

He's a nice guy and I genuinely wish him well. (y)

Hey B. !!
Just checking responses now.
I have read and knew about Marty's condition at the time.
Kind of sad but,...he had his own life to live and I respect.
You know, it seems like we all have our particular "roles" to act out in "this life drama".
I feel we each get to develop our own characters.
Marty had his challenges, as we all do, but I feel he left us with some good observations through his songs and his life
Oh,...I know of Mamie and seems to remember that I have met her. Is a little bit vague. Perhaps was at a reception in the past and only for a few minutes.
I could be mistaken but,...I think I remember.
Many interactions with all sorts of folks, know.
Anyway, it's "cool " to me that you know of Marty and his messages.
I always appreciated the quality of his voice.
Hopes you will be able to drop by "Gongji's Blog" when you have the time.
Always likes your insights and comments.

Hi Barry, I have a question: does Tina still have western men as chat mates? Or has she given them up to focus on you and your relationship? I ask this as I have found that Chinese women will keep all their western chatmates even when involved in a serious relationship with a western man. I know we should show respect and trust but it is also a 2 way street.....

Your thoughts and anyone else's thoughts most welcome...

I wouldn't worry about the 'boring' vote. This function does not seem to work very well. I vote on most articles but the result is rarely recorded. Who knows, maybe the 'boring' is my fault? (though not intentionally).

"does Tina still have western men as chat mates?"

Hello Anon12744.

Tina had only one serious chat mate when we met, George. She was talking to both he and I every day for at least an hour.

This continued for months, right up until I finally flew over to meet her. Once we then decided that we were both compatible and liked each other very much - beginning the falling in love process - Tina stopped talking to George.

The only exception to this was about eleven days ago on New Year's Eve, when she asked me if she could contact George on the QQ message service and say hello. Of course, I agreed to this and they had a good chat together for an hour or so.

Since then, Tina has told me that though she'd like to stay in touch with George, it was best if she contacted him only every few months.

So I am surprised that a lady would want to keep her Western chat mates, even when involved in a serious relationship with another. It's not something I'd be entirely happy about. It's sounds almost as if they may be used as possible back ups, if need be.

Best wishes to you and good luck. (y)

Hello There,
I have to jump in here please.
You are Absolutely correct with the "respect" thing.
I want to remind the following:
The basic purpose for men and women (aside from procreation) in each others' lives is to draw each other forth.
This interaction between both is a "god send" because each has to face themselves and
hopefully, each grow from the interaction...... Beautiful.
Now,...with the Oriental ladies I have dealt with, it is agreed upon At The Very First that it is OK to have other chat mates male and female.
Then, bit by bit, you start to have more frequent and sincere communication.
Gosh man,...she's searching for clues of how to approach you and you are searching for clues of how to approach her.
Seems pretty simple to me but, there are the cultural differences, the language challenge, and,... just men and women in general.
On the other hand she could be manipulative or working from an inner agenda she doesn't even know she has !! My experience....
It may take months to find out the lady's true intent and your own but, it will be time well spent if you are sincere in your search.
Now,...from your writing, and I might be misinterpreting, but I sense that you place some psychological "expectations" on your partner.
This never serves favorably for either parties.
Each needs to feel free to communicate with whoever but, retain the basic commitment.
Ah,...I crow too much.
Peace, Gongji

Sorry B.,
I just had to comment on this one.
