It Is A Jungle Out There!

By Daniel Chermont

It is a jungle out there in the dating world, and Chinese or Asian and Chinese women need to beware of the worst of things to watch out for in our Western culture.

I have selected a few topics to write articles, but somehow I feel that this one should be the first one of this new series. I intend, God willing, to venture at my own risk into unchartered territory, write about curious, bizarre, current and hopefully useful subjects and to openly discuss with our community. They won't be about Chinese dating, but for members of CLM they will be relevant to understanding each other and each other's cultures and society.  I encourage people to openly comment and allow us to benefit from their experience or knowledge.

We are certainly living in troublesome times. Almost daily scandals, blatant immorality, violence, scams of all kinds, corruption galore, stress, an overall sensation of uneasiness and uncertainty floating in the air. There is a lot of filth in the world nowadays.  You might say “Oh, this always existed since the times of the caveman”.  Maybe, but now it will be on the news as soon as the stuff hit the fan.

One thing I find truly disgusting is raping.  The statistics point out that 1 in 14 women in the world is sexually assaulted.  The very word rape turns me off, it is unthinkable.  In my birth country, Brazil and in Canada NO, means NO.  Even a man has the right to say no.  Manhood has nothing to do with sleeping with every woman that crosses a man’s path.

Actually, when I was young I declined a few invitations for intercourse and if the girl thought that I did not like women, did not feel attraction to her etc, too bad, it was her problem.  I have a very strong personality, I have absolutely nothing to prove to anyone and I do things as my conscience and my heart dictate.  Since my youth, I have  a simple approach towards life.  I live and let others live.  I try not to be judgemental or to criticize others.  I try to be a decent and honest person, obey the laws of the Lord my God and the laws of the country where I live in and keep my nose out of trouble.

Raping, done with the “help” of a chemical substance, is an undeniable big problem in the US and in a lesser degree in Canada.  Unfortunately, most cases are not reported to the authorities.  Rape, in any way, shape or form, with or without drugs involved, is totally, completely, absolutely unacceptable.  Intercourse between two consenting adults is OK, it is nobody’s business, but to rape a person is the ultimate insult and cowardice.  There have been cases of even “gang raping” reported.  Once a woman loses her conscience, she can become the sex toy of a crowd.

Why am I writing this article?  Many of us have children in this community and I strongly believe that it is part of parenthood to train our kids and make them “street smart”.  There are also young people that come from rural areas or small villages and are not familiar with the “life in the big city”.  Perhaps sex is still taboo in some areas and her parents never properly discussed it with her.

I did some research on this disgusting subject and some findings were really surprising and disturbing.  We are not talking major drugs, halogenated drugs like halothane (anesthetic gas), heroin, crack, “Krokodil" (used by Russian junkies) etc, which are not so easily available in most places. In some countries, the use of these drugs would surely result in the death penalty to the rapist(s).

There were “designer drugs” developed in some countries and used at time of wars or by police henchmen to get quick confessions. These would act in the Central Nervous System and the person being interrogated would become a robot, obeying direct orders or answering to direct questions.  They were more efficient than sodium thiopental (truth serum).

Nowadays, some apparently innocent prescription drugs like Clonazepan (a benzodiazepine) an intermediate potent hypnotic or Ketamine, a short acting barbiturate, can “facilitate” a rape.  These prescription drugs are used to treat insomnia.

What should we teach our kids? We should tell them clearly, in plain language: DO NOT accept, under any circumstances whatsoever, candies, gum or drinks from the hands of a stranger. Is that simple. If you go on a dinner date in the restaurant of the hotel where your “boy friend”, acquaintance or a business person is a guest, watch out, you can get drugged and end up in his bed it is just a short walk.  If you have to go to a rest room, when you come back to the table ask the waiter for another drink.  Use as an excuse that you did not like the one you were having.  The predator could have dropped a couple of quick dissolving pills or powder in your drink.

You may disagree, but I consider myself a very liberal person in some aspects and extremely conservative in others.  Perhaps this is due to the way in which I (and most kids in Brazil in my generation) was raised and trained.  I personally feel that if one has his or her kids living under his/her or theirs roof, a curfew should be in place.  This goes to children up to 21.  I want also to know before hand where they go and who will be in the picture.  Over protective? suffocating? castrative? paranoid? bluntly invading their privacy subtly like an elephant sitting on a basket of berries?  You can call it that way if you will, I call it “insurance policy” to shelter my kids and prevent them to get in harm’s way.  To give you an idea, my parents handed me the keys of their house on my 21st BDay (I was already attending University) and to this day I thank them for that.  My brothers, sisters and myself had a strict  and enforced curfew.

These “rape pills”, which are the infamous stars of this article, are usually colourless, tasteless, simply impossible to detect.  When mixed with alcohol, the results can be catastrophic, apocalyptic and even develop into the so called “paradoxical effect”.  You don’t want your kid (or yourself) to wake up in somebody else’s bed, drowsy, sore, confused and realize you have being sexually used and abused and (especially if the victim is a virgin) bleeding down there, because of the tearing of tissues by the penis of the rapist or the insertion of a sex toy or object in your private parts.

A far worse scenario, is a person that loses conscience under the influence of e.g. a benzodiazepine X spirits. This can result in a reflux or vomit, and there you go, you unleash a real nasty life threatening medical emergency that is difficult to handle even in a hospital setting.  Death by chocking is a very real and likely possibility.  Chocking will lead very quickly to respiratory and cardiac arrest. Prevention might save you or your kid to end up in a morgue with a tag in the big toe and join the sad statistics….

Please read the notes below, for your own sake and discuss this openly with your kids.  This is just about trying to survive in the days we live in.  It is a cruel world out there.

Date Rape Drugs

As I mentioned, there are drugs that are sometimes used to assist a sexual assault. Sexual assault is any type of sexual activity that a person does not agree to. It can include touching that is not okay; putting something into the vagina or anus; sexual intercourse; rape; and attempted rape. These drugs are powerful and dangerous. They can be slipped into your drink when you are not looking. The drugs often have no colour, smell, or taste, so you can't tell if you are being drugged. The drugs can make you become weak and confused -- or even pass out -- so that you are unable to refuse sex or defend yourself. If you are drugged, you might not even remember what happened while you were drugged. Date rape drugs are used on both females and males.

The three most common date rape drugs are:

Rohypnol. the trade name for flunitrazepam. Abuse of two similar drugs appears to have replaced Rohypnol abuse in some parts of the United States. These are: clonazepam (marketed as Klonopin in the U.S. and Rivotril in Mexico) and alprazolam (marketed as Xanax).

Rohypnol is also known as:

Circles

Forget Pill

LA Rochas

Lunch Money

Mexican Valium

Mind Erasers

Poor Man's Quaalude

R-2

Rib

Roach

Roach-2

Roches

Roofies

Roopies

Rope

Rophies

Ruffies

Trip-and-Fall

Whiteys

GHB, which is short for gamma hydroxybutyric acid.

GHB is also known as:

Bedtime Scoop

Cherry Meth

Easy Lay

Energy Drink

G

Gamma 10

Georgia Home Boy

G-Juice

Gook

Goop

Great Hormones

Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH)

Liquid E

Liquid Ecstasy

Liquid X

PM

Salt Water

Soap

Somatomax

Vita-G

Ketamine,

Ketamine is also known as:

Black Hole

Bump

Cat Valium

Green

Jet

K

K-Hole

Kit Kat

Psychedelic Heroin

Purple

Special K

Super Acid

These drugs are also known as "club drugs" because they tend to be used at dance clubs, concerts and “raves".

The term "date rape" is widely used. But most experts prefer the term "drug-facilitated sexual assault." These drugs also are used to help people commit other crimes, like robbery and physical assault. They are used on both men and women. The term "date rape" also can be misleading because the person that commits the crime might not be dating the victim. Rather, it could be just an acquaintance or even a stranger.

God bless you all and your loved ones.

This is a great blog on an important topic. As usual Daniel comes at it with proper research done through the clear eyes of a man with a big heart, a great mind and a wonderful soul.

Date rape, as I understand it, and other crimes being committed by using the same drugs, is also on the rise in China and other Asian countries. We all need to be aware and on the lookout for this threat to our safety.

If you have kids or young people in your family, make them ultra aware of this problem. It doesn't just strike young women. The use of this means of causing a victim to be helpless is growing against young men as well, mostly by other men, and it is also used in almost any situation where a villain can overcome another person and then pull off his nefarious goals without concern. Robbery, rape, murder, kidnapping, enslavement - you name it, this applies to it.

Thanks for this, Daniel.

As a practising DJ who attends a lot of parties and wedding receptions, I often see at first hand the alarming results and consequences of alcohol. If I had my way, I'd ban it altogether. Return to the days of prohibition.

The worst drug in our society in fact is alcohol. It both directly and indirectly facilitates so many other crimes, date rape and rohypnol included. Take a look at the escalating alcohol fueled violence in both the home as well as on the street - drunken bums belting the hell out of each other. Plus also the massive amounts of trauma and death caused through drink driving. Then there's the long term deleterious health effects to millions of people world wide through alcoholism or liver damage. The list just goes on and on.

I can see people calling me a "wowser" or some other derogatory term because of my views here, but it matters little. I think every honest, decent, thinking person would agree that overall, society would be a BETTER place had this awful drug never been invented or discovered.

Because this is what alcohol is - a DRUG in liquid form.

What good does it do? NONE

What harm does it do? HEAPS

What should happen to it? All alcohol should be FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET

Remember, I earn much of my living through regularly attending alcohol fuelled events. So with all due respect, I probably have a more accurate viewpoint of its negative effects than many other naive innocents reading this.

For your information. Kick me or kill me, I don't care. Just keep alcohol away from me. Probably my feelings here run deeper than most due to the fact that my mother was close to being an alcoholic and as a young kid, I would often gaze in disappointment at her drunken behaviour - abusive, foul mouthed brawls with my father included.

Interesting stuff. Whilst this is certainly a serious topic I think it is fair to say that many westerners (especially UK and Australian) often make their point in jest in order to get the message across - for example....
Guy says to his mate - 'I have this wonderful, magical way of getting any woman you want or desire, into your bed so you can sleep with them"
Mate says - "Wow, Really, what is it ?"
'Rohypnol!'

OK, so in context it can be funny, but in reality it is certainly NOT funny!

Recently I saw an interesting TV show called "Scam City'. It was based in Rio de Janeiro and highlighted the plight of western tourists
In many cases it was WOMEN who were spiking men's drinks with Rohypnol, then taking them back to their hotel, getting him to open the safety deposit box before he passed out and then robbing him of everything
One woman bragged that she had succeeded in doing this to 5 men in one single night!

I also heard that in China a western guy was drugged in a bar with Rohypnol. After he passed out in his hotel room he eventually awoke covered in blood and with a note taped to his arm telling him to get to a hospital asap because they had cut him open and took one of his kidneys
Of course I have no idea if this is true or false, but the mere fact that it may be POSSIBLE is enough to scare the living daylights out of me

I certainly enjoy a drink or two, but when I have travelled to China I am especially careful

1) I have only been drunk ONCE in China (and that was when I was with friends I have known for a long time and 100% trust them)
2) I only drink beer or wine that I have opened myself
3) I may buy a bottle of wine/beer from a shop and take it to my hotel room to drink
4) If you are in a bar and order a drink - NEVER take your eyes off the server until you have the drink in your hand - if you cannot see them 100% of the time while they pour it - don't drink it!

Sounds harsh, but westerners are a 'target' in many countries - especially the ones with little or no previous experience

Just take care..... SERIOUS care !

@JohmAbbot Yes John, you are absolutely right as usual. The main idea behind writing this article, was to leave the door open so people could make comments and bring to light their own experience and knowledge and speak frankly. Both, MEN and WOMEN, can be victimized by predators. There are all kinds of birds in the jungle and even though I still believe that most have nice colours and sing nicely, there are also birds of prey and scavengers. We should not ignore them, we MUST be aware of them.

When we think about rape, the first thought that crosses our mind is a lady being assaulted, but men can (and are) assaulted by other men and also malicious ladies.

Thank you for your comments, John.

@Barry1 Hi Barry.

Thank you for your comments which are so valid and timely. Alcohol used as a drink is certainly the Father of all evils and many lives have been affected and even destroyed by it. Even though it made its way quietly into many societies, there is nothing romantic or innocent about it. Ethanol should be seen as what it is, used as a drink it is a potent depressant.

A glass of red wine at lunch now and then could be beneficial, but if people asked me, I would suggest having 50 grams of dark chocolate (the British make the best, in my opinion) instead. A glass of wine or champagne could be used in special occasions and celebrations, but the frequent use and/or the abuse of alcohol is very detrimental to one's health. It also can enhance and/or leave the door open to the use of other drugs. Spirits should NEVER be taken. That is a different movie. Some brews have a very high alcohol content. In this specific case, there are no benefits whatsoever, just an initial euphoria followed by a down hill depression. It affects one's health in every possible way and interferes with logical and sound thinking and judgement.

The way I see it, I think of alcohol to be used in a solution of alcohol X iodine (2%) as an antiseptic. This was always part of my scrubbing, specially prior to a surgery. It was part of my ritual of cleaning well my hands before putting on surgical gloves.

I agree 100% with you. I could not and I don't think nobody could, say any better than you did. Let us not glamourize alcohol it can be a catastrophic and deadly mistake.

Thanks once again, Barry.

God bless.

@paulfox1 Hi Paul, thanks for reading the article.

You brought up some interesting information. It is undeniable that we have in Rio what we call "piranhas", professionals in the sex trade that would rip off anyone in their path, to include us. Rio is a large city and the "Great Rio Area" has about 10 million people, to expect a city that size to have 10 million angels would be naive. If a westerner is after sex and he picks up a girl in some bar, his chances of being scamed would be greater than 80%. We pretty much dislike them, because the vast majority of Brazilians and the inhabitants of Rio, do respect the tourist and would not harm anyone.

I have read in Brazilian newspapers, articles condemning openly their doings. Brazilians do not deny our problems, we are facing them head on and trying to clean up the house. This hurts us, hurts the image of our city and our country. Rio tourism industry is very large and this does not help us. However, I seriously doubt that if in ANY large city in ANY country a guy picks up a lost soul in a low class bar if she, he or it comes with wings and a halo over the head.

It is the old story, if you look for trouble you will find it or it will find you. I have friends in Canada that have been robbed or victimized by some sort of scam in the most unlikely places, like Brussels, Stockholm etc. We are not talking about Moscow, Paris, Rome etc, in these places your chances of being ripped off are maximized. In the major cities of Russia, there are ONE MILLION of children wandering in the streets (in the winter they live in the sewage because it is heated to avoid the plumbing to burst) and they gang up and will attack anyone who they perceive as having some cash or valuables on hand. We are talking about the former proud and arrogant Almighty Russia here.

I know several people that have being robbed in Venice, a major tourist destination, and the police saw it and pretended they did not see it and walked away.

Whoever prepared the show you watched, certainly said the truth, but it only applies to whores or low life people. Brazilians are the first to admit it and we warn the tourists not to carry valuables and not talk to girls in these low class joints. Even prostitutes, if picked up in a fancy bar will not harm the tourist, because they will no longer be allowed to do their trade in those places. The owner of the place does not want trouble with the police.

I wonder if the person(s) that wrote this article lives on our planet, it must be an E.T.

The story of the organ removal in a hotel room sounds like a chimera. It is unconceivable that a person would have an organ removed in these conditions and survived. The chances of dying would be greater than 99%, even if the intervention was conducted by a skilled abdominal surgeon(s). Too many chances that he would be a corpse during or shortly after such "surgery". He would not read any notes in the morning, he would be in Heavens or the other place.

Paul, that is why I named this article "there is a jungle out there". Honestly, given the chance, I would live in another planet. Perhaps in the planet where the guy(s) that prepared the show you mentioned live.

Hi Daneil I am trying from the beginning to figure out why you write about this topic. Ok now I understand you are worrying about the enviorment kids live?
Yes, it is so headache for parents to protect their kids, somehow it is comparatively easier to refuse a stranger, but what I am worrying is some “kid’s friends” might be changed and give a bad inflence to kids, it is too troublesome.
Maybe parents are selfish to bring the kids to this world to struggle?
Thanks for sharing your research on this.

#2014-03-19 11:51:39 by pourquoipasamour @pourquoipasamour

@sandy339

Hi Sandy, I hope you and family are well. Yes, you got it right, more than anything else, I worry about what kind of world the kids will inherit from us. Somehow we feel that we failed to make a truly positive contribution to this world and we can only hope and pray that the kids will learn from our mistakes and make it a better world.

We feel that is the duty of any decent person to strongly denounce some abhorrent practices and protect our kids and every child for that matter.

Yes, once again you are right, kids suffer a lot of pressure in their own group, some kids tell the more innocent ones "why don't you try this or that?" It is what is called "peer pressure".

Sandy, you are an intelligent and kind lady and we know you share our concerns about the safety and well being of the children. That is why we decided to write a series of articles denouncing certain practices, so help us God.

Angela and I wish the very best to you and your family.

God bless,

Daniel
