Black Bra - Size 38C

High demand for these babies among Jewish men.

I was already thinking of throwing a "doing business in China" oriented blog in here, and then a friend sent me this and I decided that this was more to the point than what I had planned on writing. You need to pay very careful attention to this because there is an important point here that everyone planning to start doing business in China or with Chinese businessmen must understand. It is also relevant often enough in negotiating your future with the Chinese woman you are dating and considering as your life partner.

The message comes in the form of a short story.

The Business Deal

A Chinese guy goes into a Jewish-owned establishment to buy black bras, size 38C. The Jewish store keeper, known for his skills as a businessman, says that black bras are rare and that he is finding it very difficult to buy them from his suppliers. Therefore he has to charge $50.00 for them.

The Chinese guy buys 25 pairs.

He returns a few days later and this time orders 50.

The Jewish owner tells him that they have become even harder to get and charges him $60.00 each.

The Chinese guy returns a month later and buys the store's remaining stock of 50 and this time for $75.00 each.

The Jewish owner is somewhat puzzled by the large demand for black size 38 bras and asks the Chinese guy, "...please tell me - What do you do with all these black bras?"

The Chinese guy answers: "I cut them in half and sell them as skull caps to Jewish men for $200.00 each.

A bra by any other name...

....and this is why the Chinese own us!

I thought this was a very funny joke, but now let me tell you about how my wife reacted to the story.

I received the email from a friend and I laughed out loud for several minutes at it. Then I emailed it on to some of my friends and family. Meanwhile my wife heard me laughing and came into my home office to ask what was so funny. So I sat her down at my computer and let her read the email.

She looked at me, shrugged, and said "Yeah, I guess it is kind of funny."

But then she said, dead serious, "But there's no way the Chinese guy would have paid a penny more for the second and third order. That's not Chinese."

And she is right. No matter how much profit there was for him on the sales end, a Chinese businessman would never fail to negotiate the bottom dollar price on the supply end.

And that is what you need to know about doing business in China. There is no win/win philosophy in Chinese business. They are not looking for a realtionship in which you both prosper. They will go after every dime available to be gotten out of every deal they make, everytime.

...and that is why they own us!

And they also will not tell their supplier who are their target customer so he would take a share of the profits.:)

John I too laughed out loud upon reading this blog, very funny but I do not think a chinese businessman could ever out do a Jewish businessman in a deal, more likely it woud come to stalemate then the fireworks start.....If Trump wins election as he should, China will not own the west for long....if Clinton wins China along with radical islamists promoting Shirya law will fight over what is left of America.

On a side note I wonder how in demand 38c bras are in China?

@John Abbot Ain't that the truth? You ran your own business in China so you were not an 'employee' as such. But for us teachers, who are employed by a school, we are reliant on that school for our work-permit and residency visa.

So let me explain a bit further, so people can understand my main point, which in turn reinforces yours.

For all intents and purposes, we are sub-contractors. We have a set contract for a certain amount of time. We are paid to do a job so we are not 'employees' per se. This means we get no salary during July and August when schools are closed for the holidays. As such, we are free to 'render service elsewhere' (something which is technically illegal during normal school term-time).

8 or 9 weeks is a long holiday. Not just for us teachers, but also for the kids. So 'summer schools' are organised so that kids can have a more relaxed study time during the holidays. It also gives people like me a chance to earn the best part of 2 months salary in one month, thus still being able to have a full month on vacation.

I did a summer school stint last year (at another school in my QLV), and they invited me back to teach again this year.

Forget the $ value for a moment and let's just look at the numbers.

Normal salary is 10,000 per month for 20 classes a week. This summer school paid 7500 for 50 classes over 12 days - happy, happy !

My boss then approached me to ask if I would do a further 11-and-a-half days, but this time for 6000. Well he's my boss, he's not going to he?

I asked how many classes and he said he wasn't certain yet because he didn't know how many teachers we would have - but I signed the contract anyway.

Now I am 5 days into it and dropping on my feet.

I have a total of 80 classes to cover over this time period - and I ain't gonna get paid any extra!

As a Chinese person, his focus is on the $ and not so much on looking after his staff. What he (and many other's) fail to realise is that when this time next year comes round, he's gonna get the 'sex-and-travel' attitude from me and my colleagues, when he could easily put himself in a more relaxed position knowing that if he looks after us this year, we'll be happy to return next year.

They just don't think ahead.....

Yeah but maybe he is thinking ahead, and he knows that if you don't come back for the job next year someone else will, so he makes the best deal he can each year. Maybe he gets to keep half of every dollar he saves on his budget for teacher's pay so taking care of staff takes a back seat to cutting a great deal for himself.

My whole point of my story really was that Chinese do not see business as a win/win situation where both sides should walk away happy so they will continue to do a mutually rewarding business. They see it more as get the best deal you can everytime because there's another loser (sucker?) coming around every corner. Of course that is damned cold, but financially, at least in China, it makes a lot of sense. The vast population makes it true.

It is funny, I am afraid I will think of black bra, size 38c whenever I see Jewish guys' skull caps, lol.

But I don't agree on your point here, John, you cann't reach your conclusion so simply. Like what you said Chinese have a vast population, there are still some decent and respectful business men with win/win philosophy in mind like any places in the world.

I have to ask the question as to why on earth size 38C bra's would be needed in China - or any other Asian country for that matter?

Other than skull-caps, they are no use whatsoever!]:)

You might be able to use one John

I can think of 4 or 5 possible meanings to your comment, but all of them are derogatory, so I'm at a loss as to how to respond.

Maybe you could fill me in as to exactly how you think I might use it so I can better reply.  Thanks.

People are so good at hiding behind anonymity when making derogatory comments!

I have a question about the Trump love, I'm from Philadelphia, I currentlly live in Texas. There has been so many things Donald Trump has been in the new for in Horrible Horrilbe ways. Has anyone seen what Atlantic city looks like today? Can anyone please inform me not of what he plans to do for America, Because he says he will do a whole lot, but HOW he plans on doing it? Have you noticed how every time he is asked something important or every time he is challenged he simply rants and talks over everyone in the room. How kicking minorities and people that are not chirstian out of the country is going to help anything? I know this is a very deep subkect and probably one that shouldnt be brought into this discussion, but its something i noticed and maybe I've met the people that could clarify. You both seem like you agree on him, and I would just like to know why. I'm currently thinking of voting for Hillary because for the great things she has done for New York, and the great work she has done in the white house the last 8 years. Not to mention America has done very well everytime a Clinton has been in the white house. Maybe you guys ignore me, or maybe I sound uninformed, But I have only herd terrible things about Trump. Lenny from texas
