I too, am in one of these long distance relationships...and mine travels a distance of nearly 13000 kilometers. Questions boggle the mind and the very soul. How can this possibly work, I ask myself. How can I afford to keep flying back and forth to China? Is this actually reasonable? Is this sanity? Is this what I truly want to do? What will happen between us while we try to endure this political red-tape? Will our heart grow fonder or will the exhausting amount of waiting and paperwork destroy our hopes and dreams? We have allowed ourselves the freedom to tell each other our love for one another, but how can this be when we can not spend the quality time that love not only requires, but demands?

I also find myself living day to day waiting on a new phone text, a new email, an opportunity to chat on CLM or even skype. Unfortunately, living on the american east coast, the 12 hour time difference takes it toll on a relationship as well. Time spent together each day in chat may only add up to 2 hours, and some days no chat at all is possible.

It is frustrating at worst, and heart fluttering at best.

The definition of insanity is "doing the same thing everyday and expecting a different result"....

im really moved by your story, this also gives me confidence to face my boy friend is from america, recently we are planing to meet each others after 1 and half of a year's online dating, but he is a student,it would not be so free both in time and the money,he needs to save more, both of us are saving, ive been waitting for him almost 17 months, its just so like what you said, waitting is just turning out to be so disheartening.i never wanted to give up but this situation just makes me feel so helpless, ive been really depressed for a long time, now i think iwill try to calm down, tell myself that what goes around, comes around.i wish its just like you said,my patience and continued hoping will pay off.

@ningningx I truly wish you and your boyfriend the best. I'd like to share with you a quote from American author, Harriet Beecher Stowe:

“When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you until it seems that you cannot hold on for a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time when the tide will turn.”

@anonymous6157 .

"May our hope be rewarded with the love of our life, and a lifetime full of love, with her."

What a beautiful story of hopes, dreams and long distance love.

Several months have passed now since it was written. I wonder how things have turned out? I am really barracking for a happy ending to this tender tale.

I can see so clearly the overwhelming sincerity between the words of this heartfelt posting, tinged as it is with wonderings and second guessing about the ultimate compatibility and viability of the long distance relationship.

May your hopes have been rewarded with the love of your life
And the love of your life rewarded with you
For though there are many defeats in this life
the only loss that really counts is if you yourself are defeated
so please remain strong always, my new found friend.

Let me say Achelle, what a touching and beautiful photo of both you and Hans this is at the top of your article here.

Anyone who looks at this poignant portrait and remains untouched by the profound pools of love swirling so deeply and mysteriously within it could only be made of the most flint-like stone.

It reminds me vividly of one of my very favorite quotations:

I love you
Not only for what you are
But for what I am
When I am with you

Wonderful and moving stuff indeed.

Many sincere blessings to both you and Hans, Achelle.
